In my classroom, my children have access to the “Zen Zone”. This is an area with activities that help them identify and manage their feelings. They name their present feeling. Then, they sift through activities to help them feel better…get a drink of water, write about it, take a breath, wall push-ups etc. Next, they identify how they feel now after they’ve completed the activity. Finally, ask themselves if they are ready to return to the task? A portion of my “Zen Zone” was purchased here:

Dr. Rouse says, “When parents give in to tantrums or work overtime to soothe their children when they get upset and act out, kids have a hard time developing self-discipline. “In those situations, the child is basically looking to the parents to be external self-regulators.”
